Under 18 Policy
Sonder provides 24/7, personalised safety, medical and mental health support. As a technology-enabled healthcare company, Sonder maintains the highest standards of privacy and confidentiality.
If you are under 18, you must obtain specific permission from a parent or guardian to establish an account and use Sonder.
Below are some of the most important things you should know about the way Sonder handles personal information. Importantly, if you are under 18, you must also seek your parent's or guardian's permission before providing personal information to us.
Sonder's approach to privacy
We want you to know that we take care of your personal information and take precautions to keep it safe and secure.
You have options when it comes to your information. At any time, you can request that we update or delete any personal information. These choices can be made by contacting us at email@example.com.
What information does Sonder collect about me?
We define personal information to be anything you provide that is used to identify or contact you, like your name or email address. We may also collect certain information automatically from your device, including your device ID, IP or geo-location.
How does Sonder use my personal information?
We require certain information about you to deliver our services to you, including texting or chatting with you, responding to your questions, or sending you important information related to your safety or wellbeing. For example, we use your email address to grant you access to the Sonder app.
Who does Sonder share my information with?
Sonder may share your personal information with third-party service providers who assist us in providing wellbeing and safety services. These businesses could, for example, help us with maintaining the security of our services. We hold all our third-party providers to the highest privacy standards to ensure your information is protected.
In some cases, we may recommend sharing your medical information with other healthcare specialists that we work with. When we do this, we'll consult with you and/or your parent or guardian, to ensure we have your consent.
Please be aware that we will only ever share your information with your employer in the event of a serious or life-threatening emergency.
How does Sonder protect my information?
Sonder makes every effort to keep your personal information safe. We use various security methods, including encryption and two-factor authentication, as well as ensuring that our staff are professionally and legally bound to keep your information confidential and private.
Your Consent for Medical Treatment
In Australia, the law states that over 18s have the mental capacity to make decisions about their healthcare. It is also recognised that under 18s can develop the competence to make healthcare decisions.
Sonder's medical experts will determine whether you have the legal capacity to consent to medical treatment on a case-by-case basis. If they determine that you have the capacity to decide your own medical treatment, your consent will be enough, and we will not need to contact your parent or guardian.
If the Sonder medical expert determines that you lack the competence to make the decision (for example, due to a complex situation), Sonder will need to speak with your parent or guardian to get appropriate permission.
